This month, millions of people across the Commonwealth will be sending state government a significant chunk of their hard-earned money. And on this Tax Day, many will be asking the same question: Are these tax dollars being put to good use, and is state government delivering value for our investment?
When we took office we challenged the Beacon Hill status quo, in which state government measured success by how much public money was spent on a problem. Our commitment to the taxpayers was that we would focus not simply on dollar amounts, but on tangible results.
At the end of the day, that means holding the line on taxes, and challenging preconceived notions about how our budget is allocated.
From reducing the state's payroll, to finding critical savings at the MBTA, we're reducing the size and cost of government. And we continue to reject any proposal to raise taxes, even delivering tax relief for working families through the Earned Income Tax Credit.
We're deeply committed to the stewardship of your hard-earned tax dollars. We'll never stop looking for savings in the state budget, and we'll continue to hold the line against new taxes.
We owe that to the hard-working families across our state who are paying taxes this week.
Thank you and all the best,
